Group Therapy
At É«ÀÇÉçÇø, Counseling & Psychological Services, we believe in the power of groups! For many of the issues college students face, group therapy has been shown to be the most effective treatment approach. For example, in struggles with relationships, stress, anxiety, and other emotional problems, group therapy can be more effective than individual counseling. Experiencing counseling in a group setting is helpful when trying to understand your own situation by giving you an opportunity to learn from others. It can also be therapeutic to understand there are others experiencing similar situations and that you are not alone.
Here are some of the benefits of group counseling:
- Students can discuss issues with their peers, who may better understand student issues.
- Students can learn from others who have similar problems. Another student in the group may have gone through a similar situation and can offer support.
- Students can gain multiple perspectives from other group members. Other group members can provide guidance about the situation.
- Students can pick up new skills that they can use in their daily lives, including social and interpersonal skills, which will help create and sustain strong relationships.
- Students can find acceptance of their issues because other group members may understand what it’s like to be in their position.
- Groups are often the most effective counseling method to treat the types of concerns that university students are facing. Students often find the perspective and support of their peers beneficial.
To join one of the below groups, please call the Wellness Center at 856-256-4333. All students must be referred by a É«ÀÇÉçÇø counselor in order to attend counseling groups.
