The Transition Into College
It is important to note that the transition for a student from high school into college can be extremely stressful. Students can feel lonely and overwhelmed too. During this time, it is important to support your child/student while also holding space for yourself too. As a parent, the transition of your child into college can also be very overwhleming, and potentially lonely too. It is important to hold space for your emotional well-being as well as that over your child/student. É«ÀÇÉçÇø has wonderful resources in place to help support your child's transition, should they feel isolated, stressed, or overwhelmed.
What if your child already has a counselor, therapist, or psychiatrist at home?
Here at É«ÀÇÉçÇø, if you son or daughter has a current, developed, relationship with a therapist at home, it is strongly encouraged for them to keep that relationship through phone calls or teletherapy. We do understand that some students do better when they are connected with a new therapist in Southern New Jersey.
We have repeatedly heard from students that--even when the move to a new therapist was made reluctantly--the new connection proved to be very helpful. We recommend that families discuss with the student's therapist at home how this transition should best be handled. We encourage both therapists and families to consult with the Wellness Center about the best options available. Parents may call the Wellness Center at 856-256-4333.
