Recruitment Processes

IFC and NPC fraternities and sororities select their members through a recruitment process, sometimes referred to as "rush." The membership selection process for the NPHC and GCOC organizations is called intake. By É«ÀÇÉçÇø and the individual council policies, the recruitment process is alcohol-free.

Interfraternity Council (IFC) Recruitment Process:

The Inter-fraternity Council conducts membership recruitment in the first month of each semester. Typically there are informational events that all chapters participate in to provide interested students the opportunity to meet active members from several fraternities. Chapters will also host several individual events during this time for potential members to attend and learn more about a particular fraternity in a more personalized setting. No registration fee is required and it is up to the student to decide which events to attend.

National Panhellenic Conference (NPC or Panhel) Recruitment Process:

There are two recruitment sessions for NPC sororities; one in the fall and one in the spring. The fall recruitment process is informal. This means that any non-affiliated female student is welcome to come to every sorority's recruitment events. First year students are allowed to come to the events but are ineligible to join. Typically, all NPC organizations partake in fall recruitment. The organizations who participate in fall recruitment varies each year based on their total amount of members at the start of the school year.

The spring recruitment process for the sororities is formal and structured.  Registration is required, prior to the week of formal recruitment. Registration can be done online. To avoid conflicts with classes, recruitment events are held in the evenings and on weekend days. Participants visit each chapter on the first day of recruitment, known as "Round Robin". Recruitment is a mutual selection process.  It is strongly recommended that you attend every event during the Formal Recruitment Process. The final invitational event, Preference Night, you may be invited to chapter events which are more formal in nature.  After the Preference Parties, potential new members rank their choices and the sororities submit a preference list.  To promote equity in the recruitment process, each sorority is permitted to extend a maximum number of bids/offers to women where a matching process determines which sorority each participant will join. Typically, all NPC organizations partake in spring recruitment.
