Expectations for Tutors
- Arrive on time and prepared to address the tutee’s concerns.
- Demonstrate professionalism, patience, encouragement, and strong communication skills.
- Respect and maintain confidentiality; abide by FERPA guidelines.
- Make appropriate referrals to other resources on campus.
- Student tutors are expected to honor all scheduled appointments, except in times of an emergency.
Expectations for Tutees
- Come prepared to the tutoring session by bringing your textbook, notebook, class syllabus, notes, previous assignments, and any other relevant materials. Attempt homework assignments before you attend tutoring and be prepared to ask questions.
- Peer Tutoring is a supplement to your class. It is important that you attend class regularly and utilize your professor’s office hours.
- Students are expected to attend all pre-booked appointments, except in times of an emergency. If you are unable to attend your appointment, you must cancel the appointment at least an hour before the start of the session.
- When meeting with a Peer Tutor, it is expected that you will treat the tutors with the mutual respect and professionalism that they deserve while supporting your success and you deserve while seeking assistance.
- Students with tutoring appointments have 20 minutes to arrive for their intended appointment or will be considered a "no show."
- If a student has 3 no shows and/or 3 late cancellations (made within one hour of the appointment time) over the course of a semester they will be restricted from using Tutoring Services.
How to Cancel or Change a Tutoring Appointment
Students are expected to cancel their appointment in RSN (Starfish) at least 1 hour prior to the start of their session if they are no longer able to attend. See instructions below for how to cancel an appointment.
- Log in to your É«ÀÇÉçÇø Success Network account at www.rowan.edu/rsn.
- Once logged in, click ≡ on the top left of the screen. From the dropdown menu, click on Upcoming. From the Upcoming page, find the appointment you wish to cancel and click the … symbol.
- Enter a brief description about why you're canceling the appointment, then click Cancel.
- ONE HOUR of notice is required to cancel or change an appointment.
*Tutoring priviliges may be suspended as a result of multiple absences or late cancellations.
