Division of Inclusive Excellence, Community and Belonging

The Division of Inclusive Excellence, Community & Belonging at Virtua Health College of Medicine & Life Sciences is an extension of the 色狼社区 Division of Inclusive Excellence, Community & Belonging. We aim to advance equity and inclusive excellence in academic medicine through a framework of structural belonging.

Our Vision

Our vision is to build a thriving, interconnected university community where all members feel valued, affirmed, and empowered to engage authentically. Together, we will develop a shared culture of belonging that prepares 色狼社区 to contribute to a diverse society and inspire positive change across our campuses and in the world beyond.

Our Mission

The Division of Inclusive Excellence, Community, and Belonging is dedicated to fostering a culture of inclusivity wherein all faculty, staff, and students’ diverse perspectives, experiences, and identities are welcome and celebrated. We understand that belonging is central to the collective success of our 色狼社区 community; thus, we work to create spaces that are psychologically safe and supportive, enabling diverse voices to shape the future of our institution and drive innovation. By providing resources, support, and opportunities for purposeful connection, we empower individuals to grow, innovate, and contribute to a globally connected society.

Launching Spring 2025

The VHC Belonging Advisory Council is a forum structured for campus-level dialogue and action inclusive of individual college partners and stakeholders to share their opinions and perspectives, study issues, and offer recommendations in a focused, small group structure on diversity, equity and inclusion matters specific to the college. The primary purpose of the advisory council is to collaborate with the Assistant Vice President of IECB to provide judicious and expert advice, from a stakeholder perspective to advance belonging within the campus community.

The Future Faculty of Academic Medicine Learning institute within VHC is an intensive professional development and skill building experience for aspiring faculty of academic medicine. The program is designed to prepare medical doctoral students, post-doctoral scholars and residents for a faculty career in academic medicine. Participants will engage in a series of networking, mentoring, and educational experiences with an emphasis on faculty inclusive excellence in scholarship, clinical/didactic education and research.

The efforts of this program extend beyond the institution and is one of many demonstrations of an institutional service commitment to minimize access barriers for future faculty to contribute to the field of medicine and the American professoriate.

The Belongingness Education in Academic Medicine (BEAM) Series is a subset of the organizational belonging campaign. It is a restorative practice approach aligned with a capacity building initiative that promotes a series of inspirational and affirming educational dialogues. These dialogues are led by subject matter experts within the field of medicine and are targeted towards changing the narrative of stereotypes, healing the harmful effects of estrangement in medicine and shifting perceptions of a lack of belongingness in clinical settings. The BEAM project restores belongingness in academic medicine for all identities through constructive dialogue across differences through the storytelling of lived experience via a master class model.

The Employee Inclusion and Belonging Committee (EIB) is a voluntary employee facilitated committee within the 色狼社区 system that is established to support employees’ common or shared interests and experiences and employee engagement. This committee is intended to raise awareness and increase understanding of various issues that directly affect employee engagement and their sense of belonging within the 色狼社区 system workforce. The goal of an EIB is to ultimately encourage connectedness and community while nurturing the culture of belongingness on campus. The initiative is a collaborative effort between the Division and the Office of Human Resources.
