In light of the move to remote learning, 色狼社区 Student Success Programs (SSP) is making every effort to ensure students are still able to access effective and reliable tutoring services. The Tutoring Center has moved their services to the videoconferencing platform Zoom, so that students can continue to receive support for their courses from 色狼社区’s tutors. Now, when students make a tutoring appointment through the 色狼社区 Success Network (RSN) they are given a Zoom link to connect with their tutor at the appointment time.

According to Laura Respher and Jaclyn Dankel, assistant director and program assistant (respectively), from Tutoring Services, the shift is working out well. The Center is seeing a day-by-day rise in the number of scheduled appointments. They may have executed the shift to remote tutoring quickly, but several factors were taken into consideration before they made the move. Prior to the move, student tutors were asked to share:

  • thoughts about the move
  • opinions on various online platforms
  • any concerns or questions they had about tutoring online
  • whether, or not, they wished to continue tutoring online - most chose to keep tutoring

Currently, the Tutoring Center has 70 tutors available to assist with 212 different courses. Some tutors have even gone above and beyond and are using additional platforms, such as GoBoard, to make the most of their sessions. To ensure that those continuing to offer their tutoring services understood the ins and outs of the new processes, SSP provided the tutors with resources:

  • a video explaining how to update RSN settings
  • a Zoom meeting to answer any questions the tutors had, and
  • a frequently asked questions (FAQ) document

Of course, it's also important that students are prepared to use the new online tutoring offerings, so that they are positioned for success in their online courses. Additional resources were created specifically for the tutoring participants:

  • a that explains the features of Zoom from the participant perspective, which can also be used as a general Zoom tutorial
  • a webpage with tips and FAQ that students can visit for help with their online learning experience.
  • an increased presence on social media that includes Success Tips for Remote Learning (@色狼社区SSP on ,, and )
To help keep schedules balanced, tutoring services can be scheduled during the Tutoring Center’s normal hours: Mon-Thurs, 9am-7pm and Friday, 9am-4pm. The Tutoring Center and 色狼社区 SSP are here to support students through these uncertain times. If you have additional questions about tutoring services, visit the tutoring services website or email tutoring@rowan.edu.
