As with all successful partnerships, the idea to create a summer programming collaboration was a joint effort. When 色狼社区 went virtual in March, several departments including the Chamberlain Student Center & Campus Activities (SCCA); Campus Recreation Center; Healthy Campus Initiatives (HCI); and Social Justice, Inclusion and Conflict Resolution (SJICR) - just to name a few - worked together to share their upcoming virtual events via ProfLink and the 色狼社区 Thrive newsletter. The popularity of the partnership encouraged the groups to continue to build their relationships.
Moving into the summer, the SCCA felt that we could go a few steps further and create a centralized marketing strategy to share information about upcoming virtual events, which would make it easier for students to know what was going on. This also gives us the opportunity to support other departments by making sure we weren’t hosting competitive programming or over-programming on one day of the week. The SCCA has also offered to share our discovered best practices with other departments throughout our virtual programming research (i.e., what platforms work the best, ways to incorporate prizes, registration process, etc.).
We owe a huge thanks to Melissa Ulmer, Assistant Director for Marketing and Student Programs in the SCCA. She has focused her time on developing a marketing strategy and creating a website, which helps students get involved virtually and find resources (both on and off campus) to help them stay connected. In addition, Joe Lizza, Director for the SCCA, has been a cheerleader for this project since its inception and worked on developing the collaboration.
The SCCA was built on the foundation of collaboration. Our department has several different focus areas, but has to come together to make sure we’re able to provide the best services and programs to our students. We felt that providing a space for departments to share their resources and events, have the opportunity to collaborate on specific activities, and simply develop a shared calendar would not only benefit the departments but would also engage students!
The Summer Programming Calendar of Events, filled with summer events, resources and services can be found at . The calendar will be updated every two weeks. If your department would like to share an event or resource to include on the calendar, please send it to Lauren at kuski@rowan.edu. The calendar will be shared on social media and all events can also be found at ProfLink with more detailed descriptions.
