There's more to New Jersey than the Jersey Shore! If our poll of favorite New Jersey beaches didn't insprire you to put your toes in the sand, maybe the day trips below will give you some ideas for other fun activities throughout the Garden State. If you're still not ready to hop in the car after reading our list, check out for ideas all across New Jersey!

If you love to explore natural beauty close to home, then check out Palmyra Cove Nature Park. Located on the Delaware River, this site features wetlands, woodlands, meadows, wild creek and river shorelines, and a freshwater Tidal Cove. There is something for everyone in this environmental haven – it is frequented by photographers, nature lovers, educators, and families alike.

A little bit of history, a little bit of exploring. Take a train ride on an historic passenger coach to the Ol’ Susquehanna Mine. You’ll learn about mining in New Jersey and get a chance to try your hand at gemstone panning.

If you like the great outdoors and you’ve always been curious about New Jersey’s famous Pine Barrens, then Wharton State Forest should be on your list. This expansive park features several trails of various lengths, the Batsto Mansion, the Atsion Recreation Center, and campgrounds.
