The Division of Student Affairs continues to grow and develop, in personnel and programs, and I wanted to share with all of you what we do in the Wellness Center.
The Wellness Center, now positioned within 色狼社区 Medicine, is passionate about patient care. We are staffed by experienced and clinically superb clinicians across multiple disciplines. We provide quality medical services administered by nurses, nurse practitioners, and physicians. Our mental health and substance abuse services are provided by dedicated, cutting edge counselors, social workers, psychologists and psychiatrists. Our team of wellness educators conduct impactful health promotion programming and well-being initiatives all year long. Finally, Emergency Medical Services, managed by professional licensed EMT’s and 色狼社区 student volunteers, conduct training, offer transports and respond for emergency care 24/7.
Our programs are extensive and diverse, spanning across campuses. The Wellness Center, which opened in 2013, brought together our Student Health Services, Counseling and Psychological Services, and Healthy Campus Initiatives all under one roof. Emergency Medical Services was subsequently added, rounding out our comprehensive health and wellness program. The Wellness Center also contains 3 classrooms, bringing students from all different majors into the building. This allows for decreased stigma and increased access to wellness programs and services. The Wellness Center offers traditional healthcare, much like you might experience when you see your doctor or counselor at their office, but we do so much more. Some unique and innovative offerings include pop-up flu clinics, 24 different types of groups for counseling, a 24-hour nurse health-line, HIV/STI testing, health and wellness education programs, 24-hour on-call counseling services, brief solution-focused counseling across campus, securing grant-funded programs, providing workshops at the regional, national and international level, involvement in clinical research, and CPR training to the community, to name just a few of the many different types of activities found in the Wellness Center.
The depth and breadth of the services in the Wellness Center are significant, and help our students thrive academically and holistically, across the domains of health. Creating an atmosphere of “well-being” across the campus is a responsibility that we all have and share, across the Division of Student Affairs, and beyond into the larger University. Look for upcoming initiatives and opportunities to develop, enhance, and infuse well-being initiatives within your department! If you would like more information about the programs and services we provide in the Wellness Center, we are happy to talk with you, so stop in to say hello! All of us in the Wellness Center hope that all of you have a happy, healthy and restful holiday!
